The Afghanistan National Freerunning Parkour Federation (ANFPF) will be holding their 2nd National Championship on March 18, 2023 in Helmand Province. Athletes from nearly all provinces of Afghanistan will be participating in the event, reprising their great pre-pandemic success in 2019 at the inaugural Championship held in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. ANFPF was founded in 2017 as a fully independent and autonomous National Federation under the auspices of the International Parkour Federation (IPF, founded 2014), the world’s sole competent governing body for Parkour, and recognized by the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee (NOC) which will be funding the event for a second time. ANFPF is also a member federation of AFPU, Asia Freerunning Parkour Union, helmed by its president Mehdi Arash Salmanpour.

IPF President Victor Bevine commented, “Parkour is all about overcoming obstacles, and we can think of no better example of that philosophy put into action than what ANFPF continues to achieve.” IPF Secretary General David Thompson added, “It’s nothing less than heroic and should inspire Parkour communities in developing as well as developed countries around the world.” After successfully defeating a takeover attempt by the Afghan Gymnastics Federation, ANFPF was reconfirmed by the Afghan NOC as the definitive and fully autonomous National Governing Body for Parkour. “Anyone who is a fan of Parkour and believes in its ability to transform young lives, needs to pay attention to the athletes and leadership of ANFPF,” continued Thompson.
